The concept of the international streetfootball league evolved against the background of the FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 and it will be one of the highlights to the ground work that buntkicktgut has optimised over the past years. The goal is to transport the idea of a streetfootball league designed for children and young people of all nations throughout the world and to establish the project’s setting in other major cities. Intercultural streetfootball provides an opportunity to combat xenophobia and racism, to acquaint young people as to how to deal with rules, to improve social behaviour and to emphasize team spirit and fairness. Every team that qualifies in one of the participating cities, is invited to a streetfootball tournament, which will take place in Munich from June 1st – June 11th 2006. According to the motto “Bridges to Munich 2006”, the paths of the qualified teams from all over the world lead to the final round in Munich, where they meet each other. This is a chance for young people to actually build bridges between nations and to learn more about other cultures apart from competing with each other on the football field. We hope that all participants will experience 10 wonderful days in Munich and maybe become infected by the Fifa World Cup Fever that´ll most surely be around Munich at that time and that this special atmosphere can be passed on to our own “Mini-World Cup.”
